Before undertaking the Low Elements, participants get acquainted and develop camaraderie through simple, problem-solving exercises. As a spirit of unity and teamwork begins to develop, participants then work through the Low Elements. Known as the Lower Crossing, these challenges range in height from 18 inches to 8 feet above ground level. The Lower Crossing is made up of more than a dozen challenges designed to challenge the group's cohesiveness and to stimulate discussion between group members.

The Mid and High Elements are designed to be challenging for participants with a wide variety of physical abilities. Known as the Upper Crossing, these elements begin at ground level and graduate in difficulty and height through a series of challenges that range in height from 20 to 40 feet above the ground. But not to worry, participants are supported with harnesses, safety ropes, and helmets at all times. The challenges may include any number of events that require participants to overcome their fears and anxieties in order to function in a challenging, alien environment. Climbing, swinging, and/or jumping may be required as participants traverse through the Mid and High Elements. For safety reasons, participants must be 13 years of age and have completed the 7th grade.
The Upper Crossing is divided into Individual and Team Series, both at the Mid and High level. The Team Series allows two participants to tackle the elements together, creating unique challenges and opportunities.
